If your home or business is located in an area designated as a flood plain or a "Special Flood Hazard Zone" you may be required to have an elevation certificate in order to apply for flood insurance? The rules have changed substantially in recent years, as well as many flood maps having been updated to reflect changes in geography, regional flood management practices, and the adoption of new reference datums. If you are not sure if you are in a flood plain, check with your insurance provider. Current elevation certificates may only be valid for a limited time. Your underwriter or agent will be able to tell you more. Click HERE for official information from the National Flood Insurance Program. |

If you have a survey of your property which is more than five (5) years old, you might want to have a new survey performed in order to show the appropriate information to the planning or zoning administrator. Ask your builder or contractor, or contact the planning department in your city to find out what you will need to get your permit. |
